AKHTAR A. KHAN 

Mr. Akhtar A. Khan has more than 40 years of experience in the developing, sponsoring and owning a number of Power Plants and Energy Infrastructure projects worldwide. Mr. Khan has successfully developed more than 3,200 MW of power plants globally.  His experience includes the development of coal-fired, combined cycle, hydro and renewable power plants.  Mr. Khan also brings number of years of experience with project finance and non-recourse financing.

In 2001, Mr. Khan brought the vision of the Group to the United States. Mr. Khan is the Chairman and CEO of LMH, GVEP and Khanjee Holding, Inc.  Khanjee is a unique U.S based private entity that specializes in the investment and development of infrastructure and other complex and large-scale projects globally.  Mr. Khan is considered to be among just a handful of highly experienced and accomplished infrastructure developers in the power generation and infrastructure business, and among the pioneers of non-recourse finance.  Under his dynamic leadership, Khanjee joint venture projects continue to progress and make their mark on both the U.S and global energy sector.

Mr. Khan is a Barrister by training, from the prestigious Lincoln’s Inn (UK).  He also has a Master’s degree in Banking & Corporate Planning from Harvard University.

JONATHAN BERMAN

Mr. Jonathan Berman is the President of Pan American Financial Resources LLC (PAFR), the financial advsiory arm of LMH. Jonathan has over 30 years of experience related to competitive electric generation development and financing. Jonathan joined PAFR from WestLB AG, where he held the position of Managing Director in the Investment Banking Energy and Structured Finance Group, responsible for complex transactions in energy advisory, corporate finance, project finance, structured deals (securitization / monetization), restructurings, and the firm’s U.S. power private equity investments. Prior to WestLB, Jonathan was a member of the Mergers and Acquisition team at J.P. Morgan where he focused on U.S. and Latin American Energy and Natural Resources transactions including power and utility privatizations and acquisitions. Jonathan led the JP Morgan team chosen as one of the initial advisors to the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) as it established its Project Finance division. Jonathan also has energy consulting experience at Putnam, Hayes & Bartlett; and, as a research assistant to the head of the Energy and Environmental Policy Center at the Kennedy School of Harvard University. Jonathan is responsible for the day-to-day operations of PAFR and leads the company’s efforts in advisory assignments in the energy, real estate and financing areas worldwide.

Jonathan is a highly experienced and accomplished infrastructure financier with over two decades of infrastructure development experience under his belt. His experiences included working on historic and innovative advisory and investment projects.

Jonathan holds an AB degree in Economics, Magna cum Laude, from Harvard University; and a Masters of Business Administration, with Distinction, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

JAVAID LAGHARI, PhD

Dr. Javaid Laghari is Senior Advisor to LMH, GVEP & Khanjee Group and has served in six key positions in the last 35+ years. He was Senator in the Pakistan Parliament and served on the Senate Standing Committee on Energy and Power. He was also chair of the Committee on Water and Power Committee and was the author of the Energy Policy for Pakistan which was implemented in 2009. He was also Chairperson of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, with the status of Federal Minister, and Commissioner at the Ministry of Education, UAE. He was also the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, the OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technology Cooperation – which is the organization of OIC comprising S&T Ministers of 57 Countries. He has previously served as the founding President of a leading private university SZABIST, and tenured full Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the Space Power Institute at SUNY Buffalo.

Dr. Laghari has published over 120 research papers and presented over 70 papers at International Conferences. He has delivered over 37 keynote lectures, including at The Clinton School of Public Service, The Brookings Institution, Woodrow Wilson International Center, The School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), The European Union Parliamentary Conference and the Conference of the OIC Ministers of Higher Education & Scientific Research. His lecture at the Clinton School (out of 1000 lectures so far) is the 3rd most watched program online. Dr. Laghari is the author of five books.

Dr. Laghari is listed in the American Men and Women of Science, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.

ABBAS ALI KHAN

Mr. Abbas Ali Khan is a graduate of University of Oxford, and a Partner at Al Shawaf Law. He is currently working as the Legal Advisor & General Counsel for LMH, GVEP & Khanjee Group. Abbas has experience advising international conglomerates in respect of various infrastructure projects at various stages from RFP to execution experience in Saudi Arabia, USA and Pakistan.

He possesses a rich and diverse experience of advising on Saudi Arabian transactions across various industries. He has advised local and foreign construction contractors on Saudi Arabian on government contract procurement laws and procedures and as well as drafting a variety of instruments for contractors in the construction industry. He has also advised on a number of corporate M&A transactions advising both the buyers and the sellers.

Professional qualifications and education

  • 2005 Completed BCL from St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
  • 2004 Attended the BVC at BPP London, United Kingdom.
  • 2003 Received the LLB (Hons) from University of Buckingham, United Kingdom (First Class).

Relevant experience

  • Advising a Jubail based Chemical Industry Company on the EPC contracts arrangements. This is an on-going matter and the EPC package is being prepared to invite the bidders.
  • Members of the team on the King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia project and advised Emaar and drafted EPC contracts for a power generation plant and a transmission and distribution system for a new economic city.
  • Advised the Ministry of Water & Power, Government of Pakistan with respect to the setting up of 550 megawatt combined cycle power project by Middle East based sponsors.
  • Advised an emerging Saudi Arabian Construction Company in sub-contracting a SAR 1.7 billion lump sump construction contract to a leading international construction company; and negotiated the subcontracting arrangements and drafting the subcontracting agreement in addition to advising on various labour law and visa issues ancillary to the transaction.
  • Member of the team advising a pre-qualified bidding consortium for the Ras Al Zour IWPP, with an estimated capital cost of US$ 3bn, on various Saudi Arabian legal compliance issues.
  • Advised a Saudi Arabian investment, real estate development and trading company, in relation to the corporate structuring of the project in connection with a SAR 2.6 billion real estate project in Saudi Arabia comprising of four separate developments indifferent cities of Saudi Arabia.
  • Advised Zain MTC, the third GSM license holder on incorporation issues as a key member of the team incorporating the open Joint Stock Company with the capital of fourteen thousand million Saudi Riyals (SAR 1,400,000,000) following the success of their 6 billion US dollar bid. The open joint stock company was incorporated in a record time within a minimum time-span from the Constituent General Assembly till the completion of incorporation.
  • Advised Sahara Group, a Netherlands based European entity with respect to the compliance and regulatory regime concerning foreign investment in Saudi Arabia and obtaining merger approval from Communication and Information Technology Commission for the acquisition of a 70% stake in a Saudi Arabian entity.
  • Advised Henkel KGaA, a leading European chemical group in formalizing the acquisition of a majority stake in a Saudi chemical industry entity; and advising on the termination of its distribution arrangements in KSA.

FERNANDO J. MOREY

Fernando J. Morey is the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Asset Management and Capital Markets for Pan American Financial Resources LLC (PAFR), the financial advisory arm of LMH. He has over 30 years of experience in Business Development and Executive Management, along with Advisory and Board of Directors appointments across a range of industry sectors, across various Continents.

Prior to joining PAFR, Fernando collaborated as an Advisor in Global Infrastructure projects with KIA’s (Kuwait Investment Authority) Enertech Holdings, through its association with FOCE – www.foce.es – and with Khanjee Holding, through PAFR LLC (panamfinancial.com). His previous experience includes working in the Infrastructure Development, Professional Services, Agroindustry, and Foods & Beverages Sectors, having served in C-Level executive positions in the areas of M&A, Business Development, Strategic Planning, General Management, Marketing & Sales, Operations and PMO, in several Multinational Companies across the Americas. Previously, as a recognized Business and Strategy Consultant, he led pioneering projects in Business Model transformation and Value Chain reconfiguration. Also, he is currently a Board Director and Advisor to several high-growth startups and a major Venture-builder in Brazil.

Fernando holds an MBA with Finance and Strategic Management concentrations from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and has pursued Advanced Studies in Finance and Global Supply Chains (AMP) from the Instituto de Empresa (IE, Madrid, Spain), and Fudan University (Shanghai, China), along with specialized courses in Corporate Development and Renewal from IMD (Switzerland). He also holds a BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar (Caracas, Venezuela).

A Brazilian-Venezuelan citizen, fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish, currently he splits his time across the Americas Region, mostly in Sao Paulo & Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Miami, Washington DC & New York (USA), and Caracas (Venezuela), where he maintains a valuable network of business and personal relationships.

BERKIN IMER

Mr. Berkin Imer brings over 22 years of expertise in engineering, with a strong focus on energy and environmental technologies. As Chairman of Pales Inc. (www.pales.com.tr), he has led the company to become a market leader in the biogas and biomass sectors in Türkiye, overseeing the successful implementation of more than 100 biogas projects across Türkiye and Eastern Europe. In addition to his leadership at Pales Inc., Mr. Imer is a shareholder in several technology and investment companies, with interests spanning biogas, biomass, solar energy, e-mobility, car charging, biotechnology, and both residential and commercial construction. His diverse involvement across these industries reflects his deep commitment to sustainable development and technological progress.

Renowned for his strategic vision, Mr. Imer excels at identifying and cultivating new business opportunities, leveraging his extensive experience, knowledge, and well-developed professional network. He serves as Chairman and board member of several companies, applying his expertise in corporate governance, budget management, strategic planning, and team leadership. His profound understanding of financial analysis, reinforced by his work on development bank projects with institutions such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the World Bank, further enhances his capability to manage complex financial operations.

Mr. Imer holds MSc and PhD degrees in various engineering disciplines and is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Technologies at Boğaziçi University, with expected completion in 2025. His academic focus on environmental and renewable energy complements his professional endeavors, and he aspires to contribute to academia as an associate professor, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience with future generations.
